NAMA has potential to starve the taxpayer of billions says leading TCD economist

ACCA Ireland Financial Services Network business breakfast took place on 4 November with Brian Lucey, Associate Professor of Finance at TCD School of Business as guest speaker. Network President Alan Maher hosted the event with over 60 delegates attending.  NAMA was the controversial topic of discussion and a lively Q&A session followed the talk.

Lucey said “Macro-economically, we are in a really shaky situation with NAMA. The Minister is saying that there is no real relationship between bailing out the banks and doing the cuts necessary at the moment.  That is not correct and my view is that if it goes wrong, there’s a very real danger that it will literally starve the taxpayer of billions in government services over the next five years. “
